Concrete Lines of Flight

Concept
The axiom of the project is that unaltered rubble has aesthetic qualities that can be used in the creation of new architecture.
The second material is wood, using this renewable material’s applicable nature to showcase and accommodate the inherent aesthetic qualities of the rubble, but also the other way around to use rubble to emphasize the natural qualities of timber.
With these materials a hierarchy is present that sets the untouched rubble on top, and the wood as the formable material that is appropriated into geometries that suits the concrete.
The overarching concept of the thesis is to register the irregular surface of rubble found at demolition sites through scanning, and then use that digital surface representation to inform a CNC-milling operation on wood, producing an interlocking interface between the two materials and geometries in the timber with the intention of renewing the value of the rubble.
